School Referendum FAQ

How much is the district asking for and what is it funding?

If the referendum passes, District 90 would generate approximately $4 million in new annual revenues over five years.

This would fund the deficit between revenues, which have been capped at an average of 2.5% over the past five years, and expenses which have grown at about 6.6% annually due to rising health care costs, state and federal mandates, salary increases, growth in student enrollment and rising energy and utility costs.

The purpose of the 2006 referendum is to preserve the current high-quality education system that students receive in District 90 schools. River Forest ranks 10th out of 886 school districts within Illinois and 5th within Cook County on ISAT scores. River Forest schools have received the national Bright Red Apple Award of Excellence for 12 years in a row and rank within the upper 5% of all Illinois schools districts in academic performance. The referendum will allow the schools to pursue the record of excellence in education that River Forest is known for.

Your vote counts! Please vote "YES" for the referendum on March 21, 2006.
