What's special about the District 90 educational system?
From 1999 though 2005, School Search awarded District 90 with the distinction of "Bright A+" for students' academic performance rankings in the top 5% of Illinois school districts.
The District 90 school system is award-winning because of its philosophy of teaching to each child's unique potential. The schools are able to accomplish this because of a commitment to hiring dedicated staff, developing the whole child and maintaining small class sizes.
Small class size allows teachers to focus on each child's needs and also promotes interaction and exploration among students, encouraging them to learn in new ways and share their knowledge with others.
Another distinguishing characteristic is the District's philosophy of developing the "whole child" by providing opportunities to participate in music, art, band, orchestra, foreign language, inter-scholastic sports and clubs. These opportunities allow students to excel in multiple ways and expand their education beyond reading, writing and math, preparing them for success in the wider world. Research shows that exposure to art, music and athletics during the formative school years helps students excel in writing, math and science in high school and beyond.
Because of District 90's record of excellence in education, the administration is able to recruit experienced, committed teachers who seek out the opportunity to teach in a high-performing district. District 90 teachers average 12 years of teaching experience and 70% of the professional staff have achieved master's degrees or above.
These committed teachers create a safe, nurturing school environment where a love of learning is instilled and a respect for others is embraced.
