School Referendum FAQ

What will happen if the referendum doesn’t pass?

If the referendum doesn't pass, children in District 90 schools will be the ones that suffer first.

The school board will make drastic cuts in excess of $3 million beginning with school year 2006/2007 and ending with school year 2008/2009. These cuts will increase class size and eliminate programs offered to children. Cuts include the elimination of 21.5 teaching positions. Class sizes will increase on the average by 67%.

Other cuts will eliminate the chance for children to take art, music, band and foreign language. Children will not be able to play inter-scholastic sports or participate in all the clubs that keep them challenged and make their lives richer.

These programs prepare River Forest students for success in high school and beyond. If we eliminate what makes River Forest schools special, we will change the community at large.

Home values will decrease if prospective buyers no longer seek River Forest out as a desirable community with first-class schools.

Your vote counts! Please vote "YES" for the referendum on March 21, 2006.
