What other revenue sources are available to District 90? Aren’t there other ways to raise money for the schools?
By design, school districts are dependent on local property tax revenue. School districts do not have the ability to capture sales tax or other taxes that other governmental bodies have legal access to.
On a state level, Illinois ranks 48th out of 50 states for state funding of public education. Across the state of Illinois, school districts receive almost 60% of all money collected from property taxes.
Federal and state grants and/or reimbursements have been reduced, gone unfunded or eliminated outright.
