School Referendum FAQ

How are property values affected by a school system?

"When it comes to home prices, schools matter.

Buyers will pay a premium to live near top schools," according to CNN/Money, August 30, 2004. According to personal finance expert, Ilyce Glink, "study after study has shown that homes located in the best school districts appreciate at a faster rate than homes located in mediocre or poor school districts."

In River Forest, the percentage change in sales price of homes increased by 234.18% since 1994. River Forest experienced the second largest increase in home prices in the suburban communities measured by Chicago Magazine, based on data from the Multiple Listing Service of Northern Illinois.

Parents and parents-to-be seek out River Forest because of the quality and reputation of District 90 schools, among other distinctive features of living in this community.
