Committee to Preserve River Forest Schools To Hold Campaign Launch and Public Forums

Committee Will Also Host Web Site and Hotline for Questions

The Committee to Preserve River Forest Schools will hold a number of events to help residents understand the need for a referendum and to answer questions. In addition, the committee has established a website and hotline.

Campaign Kick-Off

The referendum campaign kick-off is scheduled for Sunday, February 12, from 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. in the North Gym at Roosevelt Middle School. The event will include speakers and will showcase various academic and extracurricular programs The public is invited to attend and information booths will be set up with literature and campaign materials. Volunteers will be available to answer questions.

"The launch event will include speakers and entertainment by students and teachers. This event is designed to highlight for community residents some of the unseen talent within the district, and to inform residents about the need for a referendum," said Amy McCormack, co-chair of The Committee to Preserve River Forest Schools. "We invite anyone from the community who wants to learn more about the referendum, the schools, as well as those who have questions or want to volunteer to help."

Public Forums

Three public forums are scheduled to take place at each of the three district schools. School board members and referendum committee co-chairs will present the need for a referendum and be available to answer questions. The public forums are scheduled to take place on:

  • February 16, Lincoln School Auditorium, 7 p.m.
  • March 2, Roosevelt School Auditorium, 7 p.m.
  • March 8, Willard School Auditorium, 7 p.m.

Website and Hotline

In addition, The Committee to Preserve River Forest Schools has established a website and hotline telephone number. The website will be live February 1. Visit www.preserverfschools.org for campaign information, referendum background, frequently asked questions, voter registration guidelines and much more. The website materials will be updated regularly.

The hotline telephone number is 708-488-1647. River Forest residents are encouraged to call the hotline with questions and concerns. The call will be returned within 24 hours.

The Committee to Preserve River Forest Schools is comprised of more than 125 volunteers from the community. The committee was formed to help educate citizens on the need for a referendum and to encourage a YES vote on March 21 to preserve the quality of our schools and protect our property values.
